['Evaluation' is simply Sephiroth's way of wording things. His relationship to Kunsel is not one of friends, but rather of superior officer to subordinate. While part of his motivation is to test the boundaries of the other man's skills— a commander has need of the knowledge, especially in a place so seemingly unpredictable— another part of it is that Sephiroth is the General, and does not know how to simply ask the other man for a spar.]
